A Youth or Adult? Project 2005-2010

Aberdeen Foyer is a successful local charitable organisation working to prevent and alleviate youth homelessness and unemployment. They provide supported accommodation, access to a range of education, training, employment opportunities and community health services for young people and their community.

Foyer Drive was launched in 2005 with fantastic support from the Rank Foundation.

There are three main aims to this initiative:

·        To find a way of being able to offer affordable driving lessons to our client group that is sustainable

·        Through a young person’s individual action plan, use the driving initiative to assist with the development of other core skills that are integral to all of our work with young people and

·        Provide a unique product to young people in the community that encourages safe and knowledgeable driving, that in turn provides a social business for Foyer young people to be employed in

In keeping with the holistic philosophy of Aberdeen Foyer, Foyer Drive is not only concerned with supporting young people to drive but also provides a package including basic car maintenance, driving citizenship, road safety and literacy support via theory test.

Youth or Adult?

The Youth or Adult? worker is the dedicated support worker for three projects run by Aberdeen Foyer, these are

·        Foyer Drive – supporting clients through their Theory Test

·        Ben & Jerry’s – providing non managerial support for trainees working at the Ben & Jerry’s Partnershop

·        Young People’s Forum – assisting tenants to run their own forum which discusses issues arising, organises activities for tenants and support tenants / service users on Aberdeen Foyer Board of Directors.
