The Gate Youth Project

Galashiels Action for Teenage Enablement (GATE) is a youth project in the Scottish Borders for people aged 12 to 25 years. Our aim is to get alongside young people ‘where they are at’, and to support and enable them to make informed choices as they move through their teenage years into adulthood as confident, mature members of the local community.

Initiated by the Fellowship of the Churches in 1992 the project has grown and developed, continually seeking to meet the needs of the young people
where they are at.

GATE has 3 different strands of work centre based, schools based and community based. The Rank Foundation fund Jenny the Youth or Adult? Worker. Jenny is the centre based worker, developing drop-ins, activity groups, trips and training opportunities. They also fund Megan our GAP year volunteer. Meg is developing sports and fitness facilities within the project and encouraging healthier lifestyles.

One of the young people who use the project are being funded by Rank to go on an Outward Bound course to Ullswater in February. This will increase
his skills in leadership and teamwork.
