A Youth or Adult? Project 2007-2012  [JRT]

redemer youth project   diocese of blacburn

This initiative came out of a desire to provide life skills and activities for a socially deprived area of Blackburn. Over the past few years the project has flourished under a number of committed volunteers, part-time staff and the ministry team. There is a definite focus on work with family groups alongside the established work with young people. At present, our main sessions happen on Thursday and Friday evenings. We have a committed group of volunteers that take responsibility for the various age groups, providing activities based on a main teaching session. Danielle, age 9, says this of FridayLIVE,
' It's good fun and it's good for children to come. I learn lots when I come and I like the songs that we sing.'

Aside from FridayLIVE, we have the Youth Action project, which is a long term project, aiming to provide members of the community with life skills that they may not be able to access elsewhere. We are able to provide this through good standing professional relationships with our local authority and Blackburn with Darwen Youth Service. Without this integrated working, I doubt that our project would be as long-running and successful as it has proven to be.
