A Youth or Adult? Project 2007-2012

The Hollington club for young people (HCYP) is a voluntary youth project with well over 150 members and is becoming increasingly popular with local young people (predominantly aged 13 to 19 yrs).  The club is located in Camberwell (LB Southwark), a diverse and deprived inner city area of South East London. The aims of the organisation are to improve young people’s quality of life and support them in their transition to adulthood by aiding their personal and social development through education, physical, cultural and leisure activities. The club runs four evening sessions of youth work each week and an annual summer holiday programme incorporating a week long residantial in Wales.

Building on work already undertaken, Daniel Heirs will build a web of contact that will enable young people to all come together for a conference at the time of the London Olympics in 2012. Through previous project involvement we have links with a school in Poland, our links with Langenhagen in Germany are strong and established as are our links with Clichy (a suburb of Paris), further to this the international Officer for Southwark is keen, supportive and willing to work with us on forging links in Sierra Leone, the most recently created twin town of Southwark. Organisations from these countries will also have their own links widening the web and it may even be that these partners have further links. The final number of projects coming together in 2012 could be many more than 6!
