A Youth or Adult? Project 2007-2012

Wirral Brook opened 15 years ago, initially just operating a clinic where young people could access contraception and advice from Nurses and other professionals. It opened in response to the needs of young people. Because Wirral Brook wanted to develop some preventative work, the Outreach and Education Team was set up 11 years ago. In 2006 the Outreach and Education Team devised and launched a new campaign to ‘increase self-esteem and raise aspirations’. The Campaign is made up of two strands, All Different All Beautiful and Bite Size Brook.
Bite Size Brook is an advanced sexual health information giving interactive event focusing on delivering information and expanding young people’s knowledge but is based in a fun and interactive format
All Different All Beautiful is a new personal development programme. Its aim is to enhance young people’s self-esteem and raise aspirations. The five day programmes cater for 14 young people, each day focusing on a different theme; difference and diversity, decision making, body image and gender roles, confidence and self esteem possible. Feedback from young people, schools and agencies having experienced our campaign has been tremendously positive. Further, the campaign has been externally evaluated and the findings of the evaluation overwhelmingly commend Wirral Brook’s approach.
